Okay everybody, I know this is kind of a weird one. I ask that you trust me on this little adventure and give the recipe a try. For those that want a treat without the sugar and empty calories, Chocolate Hummus is perfect.
The chickpeas provide a decent amount of protein which keep you feeling full for longer periods of time. They also contain a nice amount of fiber which will positively aid your digestive system. Chickpeas contain magnesium and potassium which can boost your heart health, and don't we all need a little bit of that?
Let's briefly mention the powerhouse that tahini is. It contains phosphorus and manganese that both play a vital role in bone health, B1 and B6 for a bit of an energy boost, and all those monounsaturated fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties that can help lower your risk of chronic disease. Plus, it lends a depth of flavor to this recipe that you will delight in.
However, my favorite ingredient in this recipe is cacao powder, not to be confused with cocoa powder. When you make the 'a' and the 'o' swap places, magic happens. I have talked about this before but I believe it's worth mentioning again. Cacao is the raw form of cocoa. In its raw, cold-pressed state, cacao provides us with a whole load of nutrients that get lost in the high temperatures of processing to produce cocoa powder. Cacao powder has been known to have 40 times more antioxidants than blueberries. It contains magnesium which helps your brain and nervous system function well. Two great points for any vegan out there are that cacao has the highest amount of plant based iron and more calcium than cow's milk. Lastly, cacao boosts your serotonin levels which will improve your mood and leave you feeling super happy.
So what are you waiting for?? Let's all go make chocolate hummus!!
Hey sisters! We made it with the immersion blender, substituting sunflower seed butter for tahini because of sesame allergy. After sampling, I added more cacao powder because I’m used to 85% and up in my chocolate bars. We ate it on organic pumpkin spice bread from Aldi. It was good. Texture-wise, I think I enjoy the garbanzos more with savory and smooth blended tofu more with sweet. The kid wouldn’t touch the chocolate hummus at first because of the ingredients, but once he tried it, he ate it until it was gone :) Thanks for the recipes! I’ll let you know how they go as I cook my way through your cookbook!
